T-Sport's First Formula 1 Podium.
T-Sport had an early celebration this weekend when their former driver, Sergio Perez, finished second in Malaysia after driving a magnificent race at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. T-Sport’s Perez now joins a small group of drivers from the British Formula 3 Series in the new Millennium who have managed to reach the podium in Formula 1 – the others being current McLaren driver, Jenson Button, Caterham’s Heikki Kovalainen and IndyCar racer, Takuma Sato.
Perez qualified in ninth place for Sunday’s race, one place behind Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. After making a very early pit stop on the first lap, he dropped back to twenty second place before battling back through the field and briefly leading the race on lap 15. As the race developed, he went on to battle with Alonso for the win. In the dying laps of the race he was able to close the gap to 0.4 seconds, but was not able to make the pass as he went wide at turn 14 and fell back. He went on to finish second in the rain-affected Malaysian Grand Prix and this finds him in fifth place in the Driver’s standings with a very credible 22 points after only 2 races.
